Black Nasty

Black Nasty came to Stax in 1973 from the Detroit funk scene at the suggestion of Mack Rice. They recorded three singles, all of which appeared on their one Stax album, Talking to the People, on Stax’s Enterprise subsidiary label. While their records weren’t commercially successful, the album did have an interesting mix of funk with hard rock guitar, soul ballads (on which one member’s teenage daughter took lead), and some socially conscious compositions that reflected black urban life of the early 1970s.
