Eric Mercury
Eric Mercury was born and raised in Toronto and moved to Chicago in the late 1960s. After performing with the Pharoahs and Eric Mercury and the Soul Searchers, he went solo. He is best known in regard to Stax for his Enterprise LP Funky Sound Nurtured in the Fertile Soil of Memphis. He was also part of “The Stax Golden 13,” who performed “Old-Time Religion at 1972’s Wattstax concert. The group consisted of Mercury, William Bell, Louise McCord, Debra Manning, Freddy Robinson, Lee Sain, Ernie Hines, Little Sonny, Eddie Floyd, the Newcomers, the Temprees, and Frederick Knight.
