Inez Foxx

Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Inez Foxx began her career touring and recording with her older brother Charlie. Together, they were known for their outlandish live performances during which Charlie would sometimes carry Inez off stage as she feigned distress at the lyrics of a ballad. Their biggest hit was “Mockingbird” in 1963, which was later covered by many artists, most famously the duet by James Taylor and Carly Simon. Foxx came to Stax in 1972 and recorded just one album, “Inez in Memphis.” It was a critical but not a commercial success.
