Jimmy Hughes

Jimmy Hughes is considered by many to be the prototypical Muscle Shoals/FAME records artist. His 1964 hit “Steal Away” was one of the most important records made there. Subsequent records at FAME and with other labels weren’t as successful. Early in 1968, Hughes moved to Stax Records, where his recordings were issued on the subsidiary Volt label. His first record for the label, “I Like Everything About You,” reached number 21 on the Billboard R&B chart, but later records didn’t do as well. Hughes retired from music in 1970 and went to work making nuclear power plant parts for the government.
