Staxtacular 2012 Presented by SunTrust to Benefit the Stax Music Academy!

02/11/2012 7:00pm

The Memphis Grizzlies and the Soulsville Foundation announced that Staxtacular 2012 Presented by SunTrust, an annual soul-shaking event and the largest fund-raiser of the year to benefit the Stax Music Academy, will take place at the Stax Museum on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 7 p.m. until the lights go out.

Hosted this year by Memphis Grizzlies Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Marc Gasol, and NBA All-Star Zach Randolph and attended by members of the Grizzlies team, Staxtacular 2012 invites guests to “Wine, Dine and Grind” and will feature great cuisine, cocktails, live and silent auctions, complimentary valet parking, live music by the DMP Band, a performance by the Stax Music Academy, and much more.

That “much more” includes a special musical tribute to Stax legends Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love of The Memphis Horns, who will be in Los Angeles on the same date receiving the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.  To date, the two have performed on 52 Number One records, 116 Top Ten records, 83 Gold & Platinum records and 15 Grammy winners.

“This marks the fifth time in five year that someone from Memphis has received either a Lifetime Achievement or Trustee award from The Recording Academy,” said Stax Museum spokesperson Tim Sampson. “We had Booker T. & the MGs and Estelle Axton in 2007, Hi Records producer Willie Mitchell in 2008, and former Stax Records owner Al Bell in 2011. This speaks volumes about Memphis and its music. It’s all the more fitting that the Memphis Grizzlies and the Soulsville Foundation are celebrating Staxtacular and raising money for this new generation of musicians on the same date The Memphis Horns receive the highest honor the music industry bestows.”

In addition to the live and silent auctions, there will also be an online auction starting February 1 and running up to the February 11 event date.

Tickets to Staxtacular 2012 are $150 each and may be purchased by calling 901-261-6333 or online by clicking HERE. Special packages of tickets are also available.
